Most Caucasian American Twymans trace their heritage to George Twyman the first, an immigrant from England. Many African-American Twymans adopted the surname post-slavery, and some are literal descendants of Twyman plantation owners. Other American Twymans descend from later immigrants, among them being the most famous American Twyman to date, the NBA legend Jack Twyman. Though he was an amazing basketball player, Jack is most known for the strength of his character. Perhaps therein lies one reason we are at times anxious to discover our heritage: learning about the character of our ancestors helps us examine and strengthen our own. This book details the first generations of Twymans in America, using hundreds of primary and original sources.
