American Standard is a full-length, political comedy about two Kentucky State Senate candidates (one Republican and one Democrat) forced to travel the Eastern Kentucky campaign trail together. This fast-paced, funny play (loosely based on the author's experiences working with the Al Gore Presidential campaign in 2000) skewers both sides of the political spectrum. It has been presented to full houses and standing ovations at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia and overseas in Dubai. Monologues from the piece have been published in various monologue collections including "60 Seconds to Glory" and "The ProPlay Monologues" and the play has been featured on the ProPlay website. A screenplay version of the stageplay, developed in a class with filmmaker Danny Boyd, also exists, but is only available by contacting the author at joyjonathan@yahoo.com.
