American Printmakers, 1880-1945: An Index to Reproductions and Biocritical Information

The print was established as a form of fine art in the United States during the Etching Revival of the 1880s and flourished during the interval between two world wars, particularly during the Depression Era of the 1930s. This index provides a means of finding photographic reproductions and biographical/critical information on 1429 individual printmakers and their work, most of whom have not been the subject of a monograph, but who have been included in group exhibition catalogs or general art books. Under individual printmaker entries, standard biographical dictionaries, art books and catalogs, and any monographs on the printmaker are listed.

This printmaker index will aid collectors, dealers, and museum personnel to find information about artists who are not well known. The extensive subject index will also help art students and general library patrons locate images of specific subjects.
