It is a happy scene, as John's little brother, Jerry and his mother, Wanda watch with pride. Later, John reveals to his girlfriend, Cindy, that he has joined the U.S. Marines and is heading for Vietnam. Cindy is beyond upset, as she is against the war, but she finally understands, with John and Cindy secretly getting married. When the sad news arrives that John has been killed in Vietnam, Cindy has had their daughter, Andrea, and is living with Owen. When Hayward can no longer look at the CAMARO, he sells it, with Jerry then receiving a lost letter from John, indicating that he had secreted something in the CAMARO. Jerry now begins a lifelong search for the CAMARO, in order to discover John's secret letter. The car goes through several owners, with each owner having their own background and story.
