American Junky is not a diet or nutritional book. This is about the obese times of Tre Garcia. After high school graduation, Tre, a then slacker, lived a joyous carefree life jumping from relationship to relationship. By the age of 24, Tre's weight had leaped from a 165-pounds to an astounding 282-pounds.In the next decade, Tre's weight would fluctuate until he would weigh his heaviest at 401-pounds. American Junky includes Tre's journey to becoming an "obese monstrosity" in its truest of forms. Although Tre explains his many physical and emotional encounters through the lens of a fast-food addict, he makes it clear that his view is seen from both ends from once being a slim, slender slam-dunking athlete, to somebody who would nearly lose the ability to stand because of his inability to control his eating and his weight. By no means does American Junky have a happy ending. Tre Garcia details his food addictions in hopes that one day he will fit into a medium size t-shirt, and toss away his worst 6XL shirts, and 58-inch pants.
