Start kids off early on the road to patriotism!

I remember getting this book as a gift from my grandmother when I was a little girl, around the age of 7 or 10. What an absolutely wonder little book this is! I still have it. The stories are wonderful, and an inspiration to little ones and their parents. I could never decide which one I liked best, but I assure you, the little book is well-worn! Parents need to teach their children about the Constitution and the making of our great Republic early, so that they don't grow up apathetic and unknowing about how things actually work. They need to know their rights, where those rights came from, and what kind of people fought (and in many cases, died) for the freedom that we enjoy. Books like this are a great treasure, because they show children that we all make a difference in the preservation of our country against the many people who want to destroy it. It encourages them to make a stand early, and hold that ground for the rest of their lives. I adore my late grandmother for many things, and one of them is giving me this small brown book, for she gave me the gift of pride in my country and the determination to stand up with the rest of the patriots and say, "This is my country, my America, and I am proud!"

Three Thumbs Up!

When I first came across the book, the title grabbed my attention, and the blurb on the back absolutely captivated my mind. This photo-reproduction of an original history book that was used over a century ago conveys strong feelings of pride and patriotism that can be inhaled off of each and every page. Unlike the history text books of today, the stories in this book is told by the author in first person voice. The author purpose and sincere desire is to tell the children for whom this book was written, some of the stories of those times which will help them to understand the kind of men and women these patriots were, how brave they were, and how much they were willing to suffer for "the cause which seemed to them right." This book tells the stories of the American Revolution through the perspectives of the American colonists, and focuses mainly on the courageous behavior of the bold and daring colonists. It offers a history that tells more about the real character of the men who founded this country; of their great integrity, wisdom, and courage. It gave me a much greater understanding of the kind of bravery and patriotic spirit the men and women had in those days, as well as a greater love and appreciation for this country. This focused piece of literature, with its witty prose, makes for a smooth, enjoyable read; appropriate for its audience--the "little folks"--as well as Liberty Lovers of all ages.

the title says it all

This is a delightful little book. It has many short stories from the Revolutionary War--from the Boston Tea Party to a young girl able to save General Washington. First printed in 1889, it has many stories that are not in any history books today.
