A stunning pictorial of America's past and present--a grand collection of historic photographs illustrating America's life and times--by the innovator of the bestselling A Day in the Life of America... This description may be from another edition of this product.
A good example of those coffee table books that come out around Thanksgiving and stay for the festive book buying season and then get a huge mark-down before vanishing into the close-out trade of publishing. I'm please to say, though, that this book is a cut above the usual offering and you can pick up a copy for a few bucks. Published in 1992 with a visual idea that is still intriguing: comparing similar photos separated by many decades and it works a treat. Some of the before photos, by themselves are rather mundane but when you see a near identical photo taken forty-five years later, for example, they both become fascinating. The range of subjects helps: supermarkets; baseball; operating rooms; docks; coalmining; air force; movie making; the beach. It's all here and with big well printed photos I thought this was a fascinating page turner. ***LOOK INSIDE THE BOOK by clicking 'customer images' under the cover.
