Clearly written in accessible language, this text presents an introduction to religion in the United States, by one of the most influential young scholars in the field, giving students the benefit of the author's extensive scholarship and research.
I used this book for an undergraduate course. The prose is easy to read. Sometimes sections seem disjointed,, but overall a good textbook. If you want to know how American religion came to be where it is today, this book will explain it all.
Great overview, while very dense

This book contains a thourough overview of an extremely complicated and extensive subject. I used this book in Catherine Albanese's Introduction to American Religions class at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Packed with minute details in some sections, it can be a slow read. Overall, I found it enjoyable and generally easy to comprehend.
