I used this book for an undergraduate course. The prose is easy to read. Sometimes sections seem disjointed,, but overall a good textbook. If you want to know how American religion came to be where it is today, this book will explain it all.

Great overview, while very dense

This book contains a thourough overview of an extremely complicated and extensive subject. I used this book in Catherine Albanese's Introduction to American Religions class at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Packed with minute details in some sections, it can be a slow read. Overall, I found it enjoyable and generally easy to comprehend.

Unique & insightful summary of Religion in America

Albanese work allows those curious about Religion and America to get an understanding of the many Religions that are present in this Nation, as well as some insight into how these Religions are similar. She successfully covers a wide range of topics deeply enough to appreciate, while writing in a style that keeps interest in the subject at hand. An excellent text for studying and learning to appreciate the diversity of Religions and Religion of America.
