Most everyone senses there is something seriously wrong with our country. Here is a call to action by a fearless Washington insider, the Honorable Stephen M. Studdert. He masterfully paints an... This description may be from another edition of this product.
We all know there are dangers in America...I needed to hear from an informed public servant just what these are and how to combat them. I can see that most of the problems are brought on by our own greed. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for the "larger picture". Hopefully it will be an impetus for change.

This Washington insider HAS A CLUE, and we need to GET IT! For all the nonsense we hear called 'news', Mr. Stephen Studdert has a truer picture and a better grasp than the 'so-called' spin doctors that feed us pablum. 'If we don't learn from our past we are doomed to repeat it' isn't just a standard cliche' and we best be getting smart fast(er). America needs the medicine in this book, even if filtered down for the masses. His 'ostrich syndrome' is rightly named. Our ignorance, WILL CERTAINLY NOT BE BLISS! THERE IS MUCH WE CAN DO! OUR FREEDOM AND COMFORTABLE LIFSTYLES COME WITH A RESPONSIBILITY, NOT AN ENTITLEMENT.
Washington Insider Provides Plausible Scenarios for Decline in America
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
Stephen Studdert, a player in three presidential administrations provides an outline of the most likely catastrophes facing America today. We have gone from the greatest creditor nation to the greatest debtor nation in history in the past decade. In addition to bankruptcy as a nation, we are vulnerable to terrorism from Muslim extremists. Social security and other unfunded liabilities will come crashing down on us at some point if we do not address these issues as a society. From a global pandemic to our porous borders, we live in a dangerous time, and our government officials are more interested in their own re-election and entitlement spending than in balancing our budget. Studdert clearly knows his facts, and while we can debate some of the nuance, most of the scenarios he paints for the reader are very plausible and frightning. He provides some good common sense advice to the individual, but fails to provide any real insight on how to solve some of the larger structural problems that have put America at great risk. One feels the author's pain as he has watched politicians following Reagan's legacy place the USA in great danger. It is a sad state of affairs, but enlightening. Without understanding our problems, we can never hope to overcome them. This book provides an exceptionally well argued risk assessment for our future, and a few things that might help prevent some forthcoming catastrophes. This is not a fanatic alarmist book, nor is it far-fetched. This is a factual and reasonable account of our current situation.
