This is truly a very good book. Although I read it quickly, I found myself thinking about it for weeks. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
Engrossing period thriller.

First, Rosamarie Romeo can write. Not every author in print can make that claim. She has woven an engrossing tale, part historical drama, part thriller, using an actual family member as the fictional protagonist. The detail of time, place, artifact and person lends credibility to this well-crafted novel. This is not however a book for the faint of heart. Romeo does not flinch from ugliness and misery. Her nun lives in a real and sometimes very rough and frightening world. John Culleton, Rowse Reviews
The search for God's truth in an impure world
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 21 years ago
Ambrose is an alternately chilling, lurid, profound, and spiritual novel set on Long Island in 1908. Sister Mary Ambrose struggles to build an orphanage, yet the nuns dedicated to the cause are plagued by a depraved monster of a man who sexually assaults and terrorizes his victims. Even human compassion is not enough when confronted by human horror; for Ambrose's dream of an orphanage to succeed requires nothing less than a miracle. A compelling novel of human struggles and the search for God's truth in an impure world.
