Amanda Knox was born in Seattle, Washington, as the eldest of three daughters to Edda Mellas, a mathematics teacher, and Curt Knox, a finance executive. Raised in West Seattle, Knox grew up in a close-knit family that valued education and travel. Her parents divorced when she was 10, and her mother remarried Chris Mellas, an IT consultant. From an early age, Knox exhibited a love for language and culture, which led her to study linguistics at the University of Washington after graduating from Seattle Preparatory School in 2005.
Knox's fascination with Italy began during a family trip at age 15, where she visited iconic landmarks like Rome, Pisa, and Pompeii. Inspired by Under the Tuscan Sun, she dreamed of immersing herself in Italian culture. In 2007, she embarked on a study-abroad program in Perugia, a picturesque city known for its universities and charm.
