"A young lady with a fortune is subject to all sorts of untoward attentions by the worst sort of vagrants." Aunt Allegra A lesson Tabitha Timmons, a penniless spinster, has neverneeded to heed. That... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I've been a fan of Boyle's- but this tale was not up to par. This book SLOWLY weaves a tale of attraction between Tabitha Timmins and the Duke of Preston; while she is betrothed to another. She must do her duty and marry Mr. Barkworth to inherit; while conflicted she agrees to the union. Tabitha was rather weak- beyond the dictates of a woman's role in the time period. Lord Preston was fascinating- I enjoyed the development of his character and the portrayal of his personal growth. The author was descriptive- but about the mundane. Too drawn out. It was not a gripping work- I put it down several times to pursue more interesting reads. I persisted only when out of other reading material. This book could have been reduced to half its 362 pages and perhaps then would have been better received by this reader. The last pages of the book, building up to the conclusion, redeemed the novel. Overall I would say it was okay- but I warn readers that the book didn't rate with this reader.
Race headlong into love!

Amazingly, the Duke of Preston says he's not in love with our heroine, but he sure doesn't want anyone else to have her either! Funny, tear jerking, cuts right to the heart of romance.
