Alone in the Country

Two children, 5-year-old Matthew and 3-year-old Sarah live in a trailer in the country with their single father, Steve and their dog. They lived 50 miles away from the nearest town and they rarely had any contact with the city folk. They had groceries delivered on occasion but that was the extent of their interaction with others.Their father went out each morning to work the 125 acres tillable land he had. He would make sandwiches and a pitcher of Kool-Aid for the children before he went out for the day. The children would spend their days watching cartoons on tv and playing with their toys. One day Steve was working the land and his tractor tipped and rolled over on him, killing him. The children were now alone and with nobody around to help, they had to figure out how to get by. Since the bills were not getting paid, the electric and gas were shut off. The kids became hungry and the dog passed away. So the kids began eating the dog. After a few months, a welfare check was done on them and the officer found 2 very dirty, emaciated children who were very scared and clung to each other. Steve was located and put to rest.
