A desperate woman. Ava Fychon won't rest until she finds her family. A month has passed since she and her young brother and sister were taken from their farm in Wales and then separated in London.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
It was obvious the girl was lying. When she was brought to him, she was wet and smelled of the stench of the River Thames. Abuse had left marks on her neck and back. Her story sounded preposterous. Deran was drawn to her. He wanted to protect her. Petite Ava Fychon was a fighter. She was determined to find her brother and sister even at the risk of her own life. Almost Taken is a delightful love story. The plot moves along quickly, easily holding the reader's interest. Romance slowly builds between Ava and Deran . Reading one of Isobel Mere's books is like stepping back in time. Almost Taken reminds me of one of my favorite musicals, "My Fair Lady." She manages to successfully build a story while maintaining historical authenticity. Mere is a talented author. Fans of romance will not want to miss Almost Taken.
Enjoyable Read

Ava Fychon has enough fire and spirit in her Welsh blood to get her in trouble on any ordinary day, but there is nothing ordinary about the ordeal she has gone through, nor her tenacious determination to save her family from an unsavory fate. Deran Morissey, Earl of Atherton doesn't know whether he should believe Ava's outrageous tale. And even if it were true, should he help this unconventional woman who is so determined to run headlong into trouble for her cause? This Regency set book was hard to put down. Ava is a heroine whose story you want to follow long after the story ends. And Deran Morissey is her perfect match. I know I'll read this book more than once. A highly recommended read and a true keeper.
Almost Taken

Almost Taken is a historical romance novel with a slight hint of suspense. The action takes place in London, in 1825. Immediately, the reader meets Ava Fychon as she is desperately trying to stay afloat in the sewage-filled Thames. At first, the reader knows very little about Ava. In fact, when the young girl is brought to Deran Morrisey Earl of Atherton on the charge that she is trying to stow away on one of his ships, Ava does not even speak. Soon enough though, we learn that Ava in on a quest to find her sister and brother. Essentially, Ava had been both mother and father to the young children since the death of their father. The children had been separated from each other when a man claiming to be their uncle had kidnapped them with the intension of selling them as indentured servants. Throughout the story, Ava obsession is to reunite her siblings. However, life's events have a way of distracting her a little. Intertwined within the main story, Almost Taken contains a hot romantic adventure. The author has the unique ability to make a kiss so utterly exquisite and breathtaking that the sexual tension can't be ignored. The action just gets steamier from there.
Delightfully told story, Beautiful romance

Isabel Mere writes a solid, well researched, wonderful tale in Almost Taken. The story is a page turner even without the romance, but it's the romance I remember best. The characters are so well written, I'd have enjoyed a novel based only on their conversations, interactions and private thoughts. Ava Fychon, along with her younger sister and brother are taken from their home in Wales, and sold. Yes, sold. In London. In 1825. Ava escapes her captors, vowing to find her siblings and return with them back to Wales. Plucked from the Thames, she's brought to the home of Deran Morissey, Earl of Atherton. Informed she's a thief, Atherton hesitates in sending for the constable, deciding to hear her story before he acts. He initially disbelieves her, but comes to find she's telling the truth. To his disgust he learns about the very profitable selling of children to work in mills and other unsavory places. The search begins for her sister and brother, the attraction grows between Ava and Deran. Unfortunately, both know there can never be a relationship between them, certainly not a marriage; he's an earl, she's the daughter of a Welsh miner. While maintaining historical accuracy, the author brings the story to a satisfying closure. I do hope there is a sequel to this wonderful book. A very talented writer. This book is a keeper, one I'll read over and over.
A Stunning Historical!

Deran Morissey, Earl of Atherton's stares at the dripping and smelly young woman who was plucked from the River Thames and when he hears the dramatic story she weaves he's not sure what to do with her. Well, that's not entirely true, he'd like to kiss her senseless but first he needs to help her in order to force her to tell him the truth. He has no idea how badly he's misjudged Ava or what she'll do in order to reunite with her family. Ava Fychon on a mission to find her siblings and she will stop at nothing until they're all together again. When she is plucked from the River Thames after taking the plunge in order escape those that would hurt her and taken to handsome Deran Morissey she doesn't know what will happen. What she does know is she's drawn to the man and yet he doesn't believe her. There is the added problem that they come from such different places. Can something happy come from such a sad and scary start? This was a fast paced read that will grab the reader from page one. Ava and Deran are interesting characters and the romance that builds between them is sensual and touching. Ms. Mere manages to take the two different storylines that of finding Ava's family and the romance between Ava and Deran and doing right by both. The romance is one story that entertains from cover to cover. I look forward to reading this talented author again in the future.
