A graded reader for adults...

The best thing about this book is that a lot of the vocabulary is re-used in subsequent stories, so it has a chance to sink into a student's head. Although new points of grammar are introduced, this book does not explain them; it's main purpose is to help students build their vocabularies. Lists of words that may be new are introduced before the stories, and pages of vocabulary exercises are provided which draw on elements of the stories and consequently prepare the reader. It is an approach that I have found very helpful. This book is appropriate for intermediate to early advanced level students, and the stories are not simple children's stories or fairytales, but serious, thought-provoking perspectives on life in 20th-century Germany.
