This is a large format, if relatiavely slim (I would guess not more than about 100 pages) volume consisting chiefly of pictures, with enough text to give a brief history of Henry VIII and his times. It is a wonderful supplement to the usual histories and biographies. Each of Henry's Queens has a full page reproduction of one of her portraits. In the case of Katherine of Aragon, there are also pictures at various ages. One thing that I particularly liked about the book is that there is at least one portrait of Henry at the time they he was married to each wife, which I think gives one a far better perspective on his life and his gradual physical decline. In addition, there are dozens of pictures of other court personalities, famous buildings, artifacts, etc. I think that all students of the Tudor era would want this on their bookshelf.
Gorgeous picture book

This is a beautiful over-sized book, chiefly portraits of Henry and his wives. Each of the wives has a full page portrait. One interesting feature is that they are paired with pictures of Henry about the time that he married them. There are also pictures of important people in his life, castles, etc. There is a fairly brief but useful text, which questions some of the usual assumptions, e.g., that Henry fell in love with Anne of Cleves' portrait. An excellent addition to the library of anyone interested in this popular era.
