In the USA's 1976 bicentennial, some cyclists created a route across the USA. The locations in this story are actual locations along that route, as traveled by the author one year. Main characters of this story are solely fictional. Other characters, except for June Curry, the "Cookie Lady" and the "Dragon Lady, are fictional in their names but were created by the author fictionalizing encounters with cycling enthusiasts met by the author on the actual bike route and their names have been changed for protection of their identities.
