"Alice in Academe" is a delightfully written book that unmasks certain modern pretensions through the prism of Lewis Carroll's classic. Postmodern deconstruction, imbalanced subjectivism and obsession with political correctness, all come under the canny and hilariously witty eye of Alice.I could not keep Wessling's "Alice" to myself. I had to share her with family and friends. "Alice" is alive, vibrant and totally conversant with the weaknesses and possibilities of contemporary academia, literature and philosophy. This book is well worth reading and discussing.
Amusing, clever, and sharp witted

What fun to see Alice step out of Wonderland and into the frenzied halls of university life. And even get married? Yes, and even get married. In an amusing, clever, and sharp witted style, Joe Wessling introduces Alice to the 21st Century. The series of short stories are fun, entertaining, and extremely imaginative. Alice in Academe explores a world that Lewis Carroll would find bizarre and amusing. A must read for the academic world! In his comedic book, Alice in Academe and other Stories, Joe Wessling presents readers with humorous tales of a modern-day Alice, now a graduate student in English, as she makes her way through the contemporary "wonderland" of academia. Wessling's book is sure to amuse readers, particularly those who have had a graduate level educational experience. The book is also beautifully illustrated by Holly Schapker, which adds to the enchantment of Alice's adventures. - Karen Mueller Bryson, Ph.D., author of Where is Wonderland Anyway
