A best-selling novelist (Betty) has taken a pen name to hide a past filled with problems and family strife. When her emotionally unstable and violent mother comes for a visit, Betty's life is turned upside down. After her son is killed in a tragic accident, Betty's mother goes out and kidnaps a replacement child under the guise of a legal adoption. Betty at first is hesitant and the comes to accept the new child into her family. When the child's sexually promiscuous mother and her gang of unsavory friends come looking for the missing child, Betty must choose between her troubled past and her uncertain future.
