Alfie is a highly trained Australian shepherd who works alongside his handler, Jake Morgan, in a volunteer Search and Rescue (SAR) team based out of a small Oregon town. Together, they've tracked missing hikers, found avalanche victims, and comforted families in crisis. Alfie is famous in the region: loyal, sharp, and always one step ahead.
But when Jake dies suddenly in a backcountry accident, everything changes.
Now without his partner, Alfie is adopted by Emma, Jake's estranged 17-year-old daughter. She's a city kid forced to move in with her late father's ex-wife in the small town she swore she'd never return to. Emma wants nothing to do with Alfie, the woods, or the people praising a man she barely knew.
Then a child goes missing in the mountains.
With the official team shorthanded and a storm approaching, Emma discovers that Alfie still remembers the search protocols. When he bolts from the backyard and leads her deep into the forest, Emma is pulled into a desperate rescue mission she never signed up for.
What begins as a reluctant chase soon becomes a transformative journey. As Alfie and Emma work their way through rugged terrain, Emma begins to uncover not just the truth about the missing child, but about her father and why Alfie stayed loyal to him to the very end.
But time is running out, and the deeper they go, the more Emma realizes something else might be out there... and it's not just the storm.
