Cagno was born in 1883 in Turin, Italy. As a young man, he worked as a mechanic and quickly became skilled with engines and machines. His talent earned him a place as a test driver for one of Italy's early car manufacturers. He soon began racing and became one of the first Italian drivers. In 1906, he won a major road race held in the mountains of Sicily. This event was very difficult and dangerous, but he finished first, driving for almost nine hours through narrow and twisting roads. His victory made him famous across the country. Cagno was also one of Italy's first aeroplane pilots. He flew some of the earliest aircraft and helped introduce aviation to the Italian public. At the time, flying was still new and risky, but Cagno saw it as the next great adventure. He later worked in engineering and stayed involved in both car racing and aviation. During wartime, he helped with transportation and technical projects. He lived a long life and passed away in 1971. Alessandro Cagno is remembered as a brave pioneer of both racing and flight in Italy. His early efforts helped shape the future of cars, planes, and the people who would drive and fly them.
