Students at the Adult Learning Center at the Aguilar Branch of the New York Public Library devoted 2 months to learning about Africa. With text, charts, maps and photos, readers will learn about the history of Africa, the governments of Africa, new technology in Africa, Liberia and its first female president, and Being African in America. The book summarizes the workshops conducted by Dan Hymowitz, who worked in Liberia as a special assistant to the National Coordinator of the Liberia Reconstruction and Development Committee. In February 2012, Dan was named Aguilar's African Studies Scholar in Residence and conducted five interactive workshops with the adult students, their tutors and special guests.
