Why a Study Guide for Aging Joyfully?
Materialism is shattering our culture. The desire for prosperity, pleasure and power has given widespread birth to Galatians 5:19-20 works of the flesh including anger, hate, self-centeredness, enmity, immorality and the like. These in turn give birth to school shootings, driving cars into crowds, extreme political anger and on and on.
God's answer is God's Galatians 5:22-23 fruit of the spirit. What is missing is a commitment to think and live God's way, not man's way, and to start our thoughts and actions by seeking what God wants. This change in thinking will not be easy. We have been fed a diet of materialism by media, entertainment, and education for so long that our natural response to situations is what we think is right. The change will require and endless number of accountability groups.
Joy is a change maker. Joy opens hearts to new ideas, breaks down barriers, liberates, and builds true friendship. The good news is that joy as one of the fruit of the Spirit can be part of every thought and action. There is nothing we are involved with even pain, sorrow, and death that cannot include joy. Our culture needs this endless number of Aging Joyfully groups to return to George Washington's vision of a people useful in their several vocations and in due time everlastingly happy. Starting an Aging Joyfully group(s) in your church or on your own will help carry out his vision.
