Agamemnon is a Greek tragedy written by Aeschylus in 1832. The play tells the story of Agamemnon, the king of Mycenae, who returns home after winning the Trojan War. However, his homecoming is not a happy one. His wife, Clytemnestra, has been plotting revenge against him for sacrificing their daughter Iphigenia before he left for the war. Clytemnestra is aided by her lover, Aegisthus, and together they plan to kill Agamemnon. The play explores themes of revenge, justice, and the consequences of actions. It also features the famous character Cassandra, a Trojan princess who is cursed to always tell the truth but never be believed. Agamemnon is part of a trilogy of plays known as the Oresteia, which also includes The Libation Bearers and The Eumenides. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
