Against the Measure of the World

By ANISHA KAR

What happens when a poet refuses to fit into the boxes the world has prepared for her?

Against the Measure of the World brings together poems that are humorous, reflective, rebellious, nostalgic, and deeply human. Anisha Kar journeys through childhood memories, family, academic burnout, social hypocrisy, womanhood, faith, identity, and the relentless pressure to prove one's worth. With wit, vulnerability, satire, and quiet defiance, she explores prejudice, loneliness, resilience, and the courage to remain authentic despite society's expectations. Blending storytelling, social commentary, and personal reflection, this collection celebrates those who think differently, dream differently, heal differently, and refuse to apologize for it. At once laugh-out-loud funny and deeply introspective, these poems speak to anyone who has ever felt too different, too emotional, too exhausted, or simply too human. Because perhaps the problem was never us. Perhaps the world's measure was wrong all along.
