An excellent book for students of international economics.

The book is composed of 11 essays concerning what went wrong, what went right, and what is to be learned from the last decades of economic policy in Latin America. I myself am a new-comer to international economics and I found the essays to be rich sources of information and insight.This book marks a partial shift in the debate on economic development from an emphasis on growth as an engine for the reduction of poverty, to an emphasis on stability and a more equitable distribution of wealth as an engine for growth. This introduces somewhat heterodoxical arguments for minimizing dollarization and in favor of capital controls. Clearly, the co-editor that had coined the term "The Washington Consensus" has seen the need to amend the 90's program.For the layman this book may be a bit dense. For the student of international economics, a must read.
