The search ended. Jack Calder kept looking.
Jack Calder came to the Florida Keys to disappear. Widowed and retired after twenty-seven years in law enforcement, he lives aboard the trawler Second Wind with Princeton, a golden retriever who trusts Jack's instincts as much as Jack trusts his.
When fourteen-year-old Lucas Hart and Mateo Cruz vanish during a violent storm, the Coast Guard searches thousands of square miles before suspending the operation. Their capsized Boston Whaler is recovered, but no bodies are found.
Then Lucas's mother brings Jack a grainy marina image recorded after the official search ended. One pale flash at a boy's wrist suggests the impossible: at least one of them may still be alive.
Following that clue draws Jack into a hidden network of private islands, aircraft, and maritime smuggling-and toward a man who built his life on keeping witnesses silent.
To bring both boys home, Jack must risk the quiet life he came to the Keys to find.
