This book is an essential guide for anyone who travels to South Africa. During my 7 week work assignment, I encountered people who did not speak English. I learned that communication can become a challenge when enters rural areas. This book helped me immensely. I enjoyed learning to greet my African colleagues in Tswana, Zulu and Xhosa--all Bantu languages. A Zulu princess helped me learn proper pronunciations and usage. I used the French section to aid me when I encountered West Africans. My use of this book elevated my status amongst my colleagues. The fact that an American (we are not known to be clever in languages), would try to communicate in a native language helped thwart the myth that Americans are too arrogant to learn a foreign language. I enjoyed the book--it is essential for travelers to the African continent.
