GIUSEPPE DE BAC, ecologist, passionate about the land and flora, has planted trees in many parts of Africa whose life and personalities he has come to know in depth. He travelled around the world and especially in Africa where the most interesting and rewarding aspect of his activity was often his contact with the people, with whom he established deep human relationships, especially with the farmers. In Africa you can travel spartanly, very spartanly. And you can travel comfortably and pampered, staying in nice hotels and lodges; I have done both, but above all I have sought and been able to savour the simple life of the common people, to absorb the rhythm of the days, which are often so unpredictable, to be welcomed in the huts of farmers, to climb mountains, to ford rivers, and to stop and talk for hours with a wise old man in a remote village. I went to look for and discover the places I am talking about, guided by the simple curiosity of the traveller, and so I am presenting them here in the same way I saw and experienced them. To try to make those who read and go experience the same sensations as me. Or to try to help them set out on their own personal and intimate path of discovery.
