Abandoned at a young age, James struggled with the loss of both parents. James battles with the thought of why a mother would leave her child, and grieves the death of his father. Growing up in the harsh streets of Washington DC with his grandmother he had to mature fast. James wanted to live up to what his father was, but got lost on his journey to success. Intelligent he could have been anything that he wanted to be, but instead he gave his life to the streets. The money and the women got the best of him; as it does so many black men in America. Escaping death is something that James is good at, but death follows those who surround him. A life filled with misfortune, and hardship James has had quite the walk of life. Everyone has their own path in life James chooses the wrong one. Adversity defines more than James the book itself defines so many.
