Squeak was an ordinary horse who lived in Winnersville where Champions were made and he dreamed of being one. The town was all about Champions and Squeak wanted to be part of its legacy. Often he visited the Barn of Fame to have a look at the pictures of the other Champion horses and he dreamed of seeing his picture there. He saw a sign for the annual Jumping Competition Show posted on the wall of the barn and he signed up for it. When the competition day arrived, Squeak had butterflies in his stomach. He noticed all the horses were wearing funny equipment but Squeak knew he was going to do it and show his friends. By the time it was Jump 10, Squeak was tired and his legs wobbled. He was just halfway through the competition and his hopes and dreams crumbled. His friends at the barn made fun of him and Squeak became the talk of Winnersville. He was embarrassed and ashamed. Then a golden retriever approached Squeak with a notebook around his neck. How does Jack the golden retriever help Squeak to get his dreams back on track? Adventures with Squeak by Kristen Pagliaro is a lovely story of friendship and imparts some wonderful messages to young readers that will help them achieve their dreams. The lessons learned after reading Squeak's story will give them the confidence to follow their dreams. The illustrations are adorable, just like Squeak and Jack, and they give clarity to the concept and the messages. It is a good book for tutors and parents to read out loud to kids to teach them life lessons so that they work towards following their dreams and succeeding in life. The book is definitely a keeper for library bookshelves because of the timelessness of the message and how it can apply to readers from all age groups and all levels of society.
