Boxcars Are Dirty is part two of the ten-part book series Adventures of Dennis the Duck. After spending a night in the woods, Dennis finds himself on a chicken truck and left at a farm. Things don't go well. Catching a ride on a freight train, Dennis arrives in an unfamiliar city where he experiences some city landmarks. These adventures present excellent opportunities to learn about well known and unknown places of interest in America. His journey spans the entire east coast of the United States and includes landmarks from Savannah, Charleston, Jamestown, Williamsburg, Assateague Island, Ocean City, Washington D.C, Valley Forge, Philadelphia, New York, Sleepy Hollow, Boston, and Bar Harbor; after which his travels come full circle as he finds his way back home at the end of the final episode.
