In the magical land of Carolidia animals live and talk like people. They make homes in big tree trunks; their children go to school, and they play in the woods. They are ruled by a king and queen Great Dane. Buddy Wayne the Great Dane often dreams of what it would be like to be one of the kings, but everyone tells him that the crown is not for him because his scars and crooked ear. So instead he goes off on adventures of exploration deep into the magical forest. One day, on the eve of a great festival, Buddy learns that the animals of Carolidia used to live in a great castle. But years ago an army of boars lead by the evil King Boaz stole the castle from the Great Danes and their Carolidians and forced them out. Since then, the king and queen have forbidden their subjects from venturing too deeply into the woods because that is boar territory now, and those are dangerous lands. Ever brave and curious though, Buddy dares the dark woods. Along the way he makes many friends from across the animal kingdom who teach him about their ways. Together, this group of outcasts set off on an adventure to do what no one has even dared: explore and retake the lost castle. Before them lay poisonous swamps and the mean animals of the boar army, but Buddy and his friends all have their own special gifts to help them win the day.
