The year is 1957. Chris and Christine officially meet on the train to Peaks, Vermont. Both are looking forward to a skiing vacation.

Christine receives several menacing notes that cause her to be uncomfortable.

Chris meets August Eight, an old friend, and eventually several members of his unusual family. He works for the inn and is attempting to locate the problem causing the ski lift to fail at night.

Chris and Christine become closer as they enjoy their days on the challenging slopes and attempt to help solve the mystery of the ski lift while getting to know each other.

Will they stay close when their vacation is over and what happens to August Eight and his family members?
