Famous Sea Captain Karl Forsell grew up in Kalmar, Sweden, where he was born in 1873. Like many other boys in the harbor town, he dreamed of going to sea. Young Karl's father preferred his son to follow a more terrestrial path and focus of his school and catechism. As Karl got older, however, his sea dreams became an obsession and too often was he found at the docks instead of school. After failing four classes at Kalmar Grammer School, his father decided to teach him a lesson. He sent Karl to summer school aboard the notoriously tough training ship Abraham Rydberg. His father thought this was exactly the type of punishment young Karl needed to set his life on track. His father was ultimately right but not in the way he expected! Young Karl excelled at seamanship and became even more obsessive! That summer trip became the first leg of a lifelong voyage of the seven seas. From that small harbor town in Sweden, Karl Forsell went on to lead many exciting adventures across the world! He was captured by chain gangs in Buenos Aires, commissioned by treasure hunters on Cocos Island, shipwrecked and stranded by hurricanes, and burned by erupting volcanoes. From a young age, Karl worked hard and worked honest and quickly earned his way to sea mastery. He commanded some of the largest ships the world had ever seen during the second industrial revolution when the world was transitioning from wood and canvas to steel and steam! In the 1950's when his sailing days were over, Karl wrote down his many adventures! He tell's all frankly, truthfully, and with humor. Discover a world from an antiquated era that wasnt so long ago!
