Advent 2019 to New Year's 2020: Scriptures and Reflections

The Church year begins with Advent on December 1. This book contains the four Sundays of Advent, readings for four different Christmas masses, and the Christmas Octave which ends on New Year's Day with the Feast of the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. We are called to repent in preparation of the birth of our Saviour. The first Sunday, Isaiah calls us to the New Jerusalem where the lion and lamb lie down together. St. Paul urges us to walk in the light. St Matthew describes the rapture of the faithful. The second Sunday, Isaiah describes the judgement of the faithful. St. Paul assures us that the Gentiles are welcomed into God's grace. Matthew describes the ministry and mission of John the Baptist. The third Sunday of Lent, we rejoice in the Lord's goodness. St. James reminds us to be patient during the time of waiting. Jesus speaks to John's followers when John is in prison. The fourth Sunday covers the Annunciation, including Isaiah's prophesy and Matthew's account. The four sets of Christmas readings include more prophesy, praise God for his mercy, and tell the story we all know and love of the birth of a baby boy in fulfillment of God's covenant with David. Rejoice for unto us a Savior is born, Jesus Christ the Lord. The Octave extends from Christmas Day through New Year's Day and includes the feast days for St. Stephen, St. John the Evangelist, Holy Innocents, Holy Family, and Mary Mother of God. We also read about Anna recognizing Jesus in the temple and receive warnings about the anti-christ who comes to lead the faithful to Hell. God loves you. Jesus died for you. He is risen
