The purpose of the symposium was to provide a forum for discussions on the need for nuclear power, on the features of advanced nuclear power systems and their design objectives and safety approaches, taking into consideration the views of regulatory bodies, on identifying barriers to the deployment of these systems, and on reviewing options for international co-operation.
