At first glance, I was furious! Tiny, skinny, little thing! Then I started to scan it. Oh no! Look at all the buzzwords and euphemisms! Then I started to read it. Guess what? It's really good. Lot's of DIFFERENT stuff you don't hear other places. Would this be a good one book to have on Flow or Lean? No. I don't think so. But would it be one of the best books in your Manufacturing Engineering Library? Yes. I think it would be. For example, they talk a lot about computer simulation. How important it is. How surprising the results might be. I just happened to be doing a simulation when I started this book. So they won me over. I was wondering why no one had mentioned the criticality of simulating your workcell(s)! Indeed, it is "Advanced" on the subject of Flow Manufacturing. And hear and there I find more of these little tidbits. The authors, despite an unabashed penchant for "Consulting Buzzwords," provide exactly the kind of information you won't find in "those" kinds of books. A strange but quite gratifying experience. This book is for you if you've been studying for a Lean Transformation (especially from a Batch Job Shop), but are starting to tire of reading the same ole same ole, over and over again. Reading through this material was rather like an Easter Egg hunt. It's not a whole dinner; but it's a special treat. An after dinner Cognac. Authoritative. Very different.
A must for anyone starting a lean initiative
