Don't be misled by those who say this is a 4.6 book

I listened to those reviews and delayed buying this book--causing me to lose a LOT of programming time. Yes, the book seems like it was written from a 4.6 point of view, but the fundamental concepts and examples still work for R5. Plus, let's face it, some of the R5 features don't work exactly as they should, so it's good to know how to resort to 4.6 techniques. This book has some really good EXAMPLES--not to be confused with the many Domino books that were clearly lifted from the Help documentation and that do NOT help programmers--at least that's what I've found from other books.

Not just worth to read it, but definitively worth to have it

One of those books that, after reading it, makes you feel happy about having bought it. It is simply written thinking about trying to teach something in every sentence. Clear, well written, structured, to-the-point. Basically centered on the new features for Web programming (as the title says) in release 5, including references on how to achieve the same results in R4, what makes it a powerful tool for developers that works in both ways: Migrating a R4 web app. to R5, moving the old "tricks" to the new R5 features, in one direction, and a perfect way to conciliate new web apps. thought for R5 with the previous version, in the other. A clever, rich and sincere book written for those who already developed for Notes Clients, and want to put their applications to be accesed trought web browsers too.

R5? Hey, the real world is still using 4.6...

and this book IS THE STUFF. The biggest loss to the Notes/Domino Advisor was when Rose quit writing for it (presumably to tackle this book). Yes, I'm writing this in late July '99 - 'long' after the offical R5 release, but if you find it at all galling that some of the info is pre-R5 and the R5 stuff is based on a beta, I question just who your customers are. I assume they are new Notes installations. *Most* large companies would NEVER bet the farm on a x.0 release, and those that I do support - don't. R5? Yeah, maybe in a year or two. Until then, bail me out with some beefy 4.6x stuff...

The greatest bridge between Notes 4.6 and Domino 5

I think this book can bring you in an easy way from Notes 4.x to Domino 5 without any problems. You can understand what are the major changes in the release 5 thanks to an extensive collection of examples. I understand that some changes have been made for the final release 5 and maybe the book does not cover all the new functionalities but it4s impossible for me have a book covering everything assuming that release 5 is under Beta process. Thanks Rose to spend your knowledge and your time writing those things that are very useful in our daily development projects. Daniel.

I did not know you could do that?

I have been developing in Lotus Notes for several years now. I thought that I had found every trick that there was. This book should me sample code that I have never thought of. I also love to see what I can do with mixing java, javascript, and Domino. The chapters that were spent on this aspect was very well written and easy to understand as a programmer. It was great to see the new areas in Release 4.6 and 5 that I can use to really spice up things. I am not talking about the new @functions but rather the new java classes and corba features.Great book!
