This book began as a personal experiment.
Back in 2012, I took a sabbatical with a goal: to learn how to draw and paint, even though I had no formal art training. But it wasn't just about making art-it was about observing how I learn. I wanted to understand the mechanics of learning something completely new from scratch, as an adult. That experiment became the first edition of this book. Fast forward to 2025. The world has changed-massive shifts in how we live, learn, and work. AI is now mainstream. Remote work, once a novelty, is the norm. The tools available to us have evolved, and so must our approach to learning. This second edition is part update, part reflection. I've kept the spirit of the original, but tightened up ideas, added new stories, and updated frameworks to reflect the world we now live in. Over the years, I've run workshops and coaching sessions using the ideas in this book-and many of those real-life lessons have made their way into these pages. This book is for anyone embarking on a learning journey-whether it's art, coding, leadership, or something personal. It's also for those trying to make sense of how we learn in an age of constant change.
