I am the bio daughter of my parents (which means I have an adopted sibling) and also an adoptive mother myself. This is by far the best book I have read on adoption. It is written as a letter to the daughter of the author, who happened to be adopted, and answers potential questions she may have in the future. The author also has a bio son. He explains how his love for his children is the same even if they came through different "routes". He has two kids, not an adopted kid and a bio kid. What makes each child special is not how s/he came into the family, but his/her uniqueness. The fact that they were loved so much from the start (i.e. from the moment they decided to have a bio child in one case, and from the moment they decided to adopt, in the other) makes them equal in the eyes of love. This is a feelings book, not a manual. It talks about how he would answer any questions on birthparents, abandonment, racism, certainties (what child, bio or adopted, comes with a guarantee?), paperwork, waiting, and most of all, loving a child unconditionally. Please, if you are considering adoption or have been touched by adoption in any way, read this book.
