It's 1959 in Boston and childhood friends Ginny and Chip each want to marry their lover. They are living in the shadows and afraid of the laws that persecute and jail homosexuals. The two scheme to purchase a two-family house so that they can hide behind closed doors as two distinct married couples. Ginny's lover Beverly and Chip's very Catholic lover, Richard are swayed to join in the ruse. But nothing is as easy as it seems. As the two couples navigate their relationships with each other, family pressure and societal expectations tear at them both individually and collectively.
