Addicted To Tragedy is a memoir about growing up with a harsh stepfather in an affluent suburb of Los Angeles in the 1970's and 1980's. With a rebellious and troublemaking start, Michael makes his way through the skateboarding and punk rock culture of the era with the guiding hand of his bigger than life, star-in-the-making big sister Michele. Out of nowhere, a series of tragedies and death happen to the only safe people in his life and Michael is left spiritually bankrupt and wandering alone. To cope, Michael begins a pattern that can best be described as an addiction to tragedy, to recreate the horrible feelings of loss that became the only comfortable feelings he knew. We see Michael's penchant for hysterical, spot on observational rants as a mask for the devastation that lies just underneath his skin. As he presses forward, we learn the story of a person facing long-term grief, anger, addiction, fear, and darkness who ultimately comes out the other side grateful, with a chance to be happy, free and truly alive.
