Sam is a small town astronomer who, when not looking at the stars, literally aims his telescope at his childhood sweetheart, Linda, a local teacher. She moves to New York, however, and ends up falling for a French restaurateur, Anton. Hearing the news, Sam heads for the Big Apple and "moves in" across the street from Anton's apartment where he can spy on his former girlfriend and her new lover. Sam gets an unexpected partner, though, when Maggie, a photographer, show up. It turns out her former finance was Anton and she's now seeking revenge on him. Seeing they're in similar predicaments, Maggie persuades Sam that the only way he can get Linda back is to destroy Anton's life, which coincidentally is what she wants to do. As they proceed with their plan, however, an unexpected twist of fate occurs as she and Sam begin to fall for one another.

No real surprises or chemistry

Stick in the mud Sam (Matthew Broderick) stays home while he is looking for life, Linda (Kelly Preston) goes to the big city and is seduced by a French restaurateur (Tchéky Karyo). Naturally, Sam gets the courage to recover his lost love and is detoured by her flamboyant affair. So, he plots and plans to get her back using devious methods. Inter a mysterious intruder, Maggie (Meg Ryan). Looks like Frenchie has an ex with the same intention as Sam. *** Beware of girls bearing strawberries *** Will they get their Loves Back?
