Dr. Amen "GETS" Adult ADHD

I read this book years ago, in its original printing, and find it as helpful today as I did then. Amen acknowledges--and offers strategies for addressing--"intimacy" issues that few other clinicians know to even ask about! Especially if they thinkt ADHD is just about having trouble with paperwork at the office or being "creative." :-0 So, granted, this is not a foundational book on ADHD, but it's the one you read when you want more in-depth help on intimacy issues (meaning...SEX). Keep in mind, though: New medications are introduced every year, so look to other sources to update the specific advice about certain medications. In learning about ADHD, I finally decided that reading about 3-5 good books on the subject was a much better strategy than trying to find a doc or therapist who would explain it all for my husband and I. We'd wasted enough years consulting "experts" and all it did was make things worse. And sometimes you have to invest months (and lots of co-pays) before you realize that the clinician really doesn't "get" ADHD. So, my advice is earmark about $150, make the relevant reading choices, and read read read. Then join an online support group for partners of adults with ADHD. Gina Pera

This book was good for both of us. It reminded me (the ADDer) some of the things I do are a result of the disease, not because I am ignorant or thoughtless. And it gave my husband a better idea of the same~ We have been in counseling for a year now, this book was the best way to finish our work and deal with/accept my ADD
