Book Overview

The death and resurrection of Jesus are not the end of the good news, but only the beginning. In Acts, Luke tells the story of the workings of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the apostles and in the early church. Though titled "The Acts of the Apostles," the book is just as much about the acts of the Holy Spirit. The resurrection and ascension of Jesus became the beginnings of the life of the believer, who is empowered by the Spirit to go to every extreme to make known the message of God's saving acts in Christ.

Interpretation Bible Studies (IBS) offers solid biblical content in a creative study format. Forged in the tradition of the celebrated Interpretation commentary series, IBS makes the same depth of biblical insight available in a dynamic, flexible, and user-friendly resource. Designed for adults and older youth, Interpretation Bible Studies can be used in small groups, in church school classes, in large group presentations, or in personal study.

A lifesaver

As a new pastor in a PC(USA) church, I was trying to write my own Bible Studies for our Wednesday evening services. I cannot even begin to say how much time that took. This book gave me a lot of help! It does skip some larger stories within Acts, such as the martyrdom of Stephen, which surprised me. That said, it does a good job of using stories to describe the overall movement of the book of Acts. The church continued to grow and face obstacles in growth, and this book does an excellent job forcing the reader to engage that growth and to discuss it. The leader of the Bible Study can only start with this book. It is far more beneficial if you work with the online resources as well as the Acts Commentary in the Interpretation series. This book is not meant to stand alone, but in partnership with these other resources. I am grateful to this book because it saves a lot of time, choosing sections of the text and making them manageable for my 45 minute Bible Study.

Great study for a group or alone

This book was used in an Adult Sunday School class at our Pres. church. I didn't make it to all the classes but used this book to study Acts on my own. It provides many insights into Acts and also refers the reader to other sources for further study. This study book does not deal with ALL of the book of Acts but looks in depth at certain passages. Chapter titles include:New Beginnings, Pentecost, Life and Death, Conversion of Saul, Peter and COrnelius, Jerusalem Council, Paul in Athens, Women in the new test. Church, Riot in Ephesus, Paul's Trial before Agrippa. Contains a leader's guide.
