A young Roman soldier, Cornelius, miraculously survives the battle of Teutoburg Woods in 9 A. D. when he is rescued by Thusnelda, wife of the enemy, German Chieftain Arminicus. Eventually, as the personal aide to Germanicus, Cornelius escorts Gemanicus to Rome where the general is to receive a Roman Triumph for his victories among the German tribes. On the way to Rome, Cornelius is called upon to save the life of a young Greek slave, who will become like a son to him. Continuing on to Antioch where Germanicus has been made Governor, tragedy strikes and Cornelius is again called upon to change the course of his life. He is assigned to travel to Judea with Pontius Pilate. There, as he learns more of the Jewish beliefs, he faces the most important decision of his life. Does he give up all he has ever known to join their ranks? Or continue in his life as a now respected Roman soldier? Then he meets the beautiful Dinorah, who just happens to be Jewish. Follow their journey through the most difficult of times, and eventually to the dark catacombs of Rome.
