The convent succeded in increasing its landed property in a period of troubles. It became the most important monastery on Mount Athos thanks to the generosity of Byzantine and Serbian rulers and thanks to its relationships with the aristocracy. Some aristocrats would use Vatopedi as a deposit bank and would become monks in return for a life annuity. The real estate of the monastery in 1376 is then presented. A description, analysis, commentary and edition of 84 documents follows, 51 of which were previously unknown. The volume also includes the edition of three forged documents and a general index. All documents are reproduced in an album.
