From the first page, I knew this book was going to be fun to read: "Flin the Brigand ran his fingers along the huge warhorse's rippling neck. 'So here's my pet,' he said with a shiny grin... 'By Tyche's dice, I'd swear he's a fathom across the rump.' 'Same as my woman,' Putney replies with a smile of his own. 'And twice as handsome.' Dennis McCarty's writing is a delight throughout the story, with delightful exchanges of dialog and tiny details like a "shiny smile" that conjure vivid images of the characters. The plot is unique and moves quickly enough to be interesting, but was a bit too simple to merit five stars from me. Some of the battles were too easily resolved and some of the evil character's motives were superficial. However, this criticism stems from how much I liked the book; I'm always pickier in novels that I enjoy! Cursing: None Gore: Multiple battles and killing Sex: None. There is a love story between a knight who has sworn chastity and a damsel, but the two characters only kiss and their desire to do more is intimated in an indirect way.
