Across the Fence is the first book in the upcoming series, Between the Ears. Across the Fence is a one-hundred-page middle grade reader told from the point of view of Panther, a young horse with a mixed background and social developmental delay. Across the Fence is suitable for reluctant readers that are ready for more vocabulary, but need a fast-paced adventure. A glossary and references are included to assist readers in expanding their horsemanship.
PANTHER IS A BOLD, BROWN THREE-YEAR-OLD MUSTANG/ AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE FILLY.
Panther is born in the Arizona desert and raised by her mother and aunt during their journey north. Panther develops a rich imagination and bold nature to overcome the atypical upbringing of growing up without a herd.
Panther explores friendships with different critters, and finds some are more suitable than others. Her friendships expand her world, especially when she and Link, a desert kit fox with a knack for spying, discover a horse ranch. Just when life was getting interesting, she receives terrible news from the roadrunners.
With a heavy heart, she and Link return to the hills by the horse ranch. Panther becomes fast friends with Roxy, a three-year-old filly at the ranch. Panther and Roxy each learn what life is like across the fence.
